Choose the coverage you need
A system proxy can be sufficient for a few applications that follow its settings. Its practical coverage depends on those applications. TUN brings traffic matching the configured routes into a virtual interface, making broader control possible, but exclusions, LAN access and virtual machines still need attention.
godusevpn defaults to TUN and offers Rule, Global and Direct modes. It suits people who want subscriptions and system policies in one interface. A narrower setup can also be a sensible choice when the requirement concerns only a browser.
Separate two IPv6 questions
Ask whether a client rejects IPv6 packets inside a tunnel and whether it also handles public addresses configured on physical adapters. Packet control and native applications reading local address information are different concerns.
godusevpn combines DNS policy, fake-ip mapping, IPv6 destination rejection, TUN capture and adapter-level disabling where supported. Another client may provide similar controls or a different approach. Check its specific version and implementation before deciding; a generic leak-protection label is insufficient evidence of either coverage or absence.
Identify the DNS service and route
DoH describes encrypted DNS transport. It does not, on its own, establish which resolver answers or whether the connection uses a proxy. Look for clear treatment of remote DNS, local DNS, node hostname lookup and configurable exceptions.
godusevpn sends remote DoH through the proxy by default, with separate policies for local and node lookups. You still choose a resolver and subscription provider. Using an open-source client does not remove the trust involved in those services.
Include failure and maintenance behavior
Check what happens if a subscription refresh fails, a node stops responding or a protection mechanism is incomplete. Can a working connection continue? Is there an explicit warning? Can you restore networking when the service cannot start? Signed update verification and the contents of diagnostic exports also matter in everyday use.
godusevpn provides subscription fallback, recovery for certain sessions, degraded-state reporting, verified updates and redacted diagnostics. These features are not a third-party security audit, and redaction is not a no-logging promise. Assess them according to the maintenance you are comfortable doing.
Make the final choice on your platform
Permissions, startup timing and maturity differ by operating system. godusevpn’s Android build is a beta, TV validation continues, and OpenWrt gateway coverage is based on laboratory testing. Windows, Linux and macOS also have different protection conditions.
Try the modes, exit information, LAN access and recovery process on your actual device before expanding to more devices or a gateway. A suitable client provides the coverage you need, trade-offs you understand and a recovery path you can use.
